Listen to your LIPS

October 12, 2016

First of all, thank you for the words of love and support over the last week since I announced that #littledreamer was promoted to heaven.  If you haven't received the email from last week--please let me know!

This week has been one of the hardest of my life, but…I am not going to talk about that right now, I am going to share with you something pretty near and dear to my heart.

I used to be a person that would talk very negatively about myself. I remember as a baton twirler, I would tell people that I would "probably drop it" before I did a trick so that if I did, they already knew that I KNEW that I "sucked." I was the first to say I was fat, that I had acne, that I could grow facial hair (dang PCOS), that I was….alll of these negative things. It somehow made me feel like people wouldn't say them behind my back if I said them out loud.

Sad huh?

I bet you know someone like that.

I bet some of you are still that person.

Stop.It.

You speak your world into existence. Insulting yourself only makes other people feel uncomfortable.  They don't want to hear you talk badly about yourself--the person that they love.  And…sadly, talking about it doesn't make it go away.

I had someone tell me that I needed to say 3 positive things about myself to cancel out the bad. If I called myself fat--I needed to say 3 things I like about my body. If I said I was dumb--I needed to say 3 things that make me feel smart or intelligent. If I said I couldn't do something--I needed to say 3 things I could do well.

James 3:9-12 says, "With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse human beings, who have been made in God’s likeness. Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers and sisters, this should not be. Can both fresh water and salt water flow from the same spring? My brothers and sisters, can a fig tree bear olives, or a grapevine bear figs? Neither can a salt spring produce fresh water."

Have you thought about if you are insulting yourself you are insulting God? He made you, IN HIS LIKENESS.  He didn't mess up.

I challenge you before you do anything in the morning--look at yourself in the mirror and say 3 positive things about yourself.

Here are some examples:

I am strong.

I can hard things.

I am beautiful.

I am smart.
